Happy Fourth of July!!!

I’m baaaacccckkkkk :)

So, it’s been a busy year... I got married almost 2 months ago to the day - yay! You may remember Tiffany from such blogs as year one, quit texting the girl you just met from the WSOP table and play some cards! I posted the wedding picture our photographer made for Star Wars day, but by now I’m assuming most of you have already seen it.

At least twice.

Probably several times.

I haven’t really played much poker lately – I was crazy busy with work at the end of last year and spent the first half of this year juggling work and a wedding. I’ve won or cashed the last couple games with friends I’ve played in, but all that really proves is that my QJ off can hold up against a busted flush draw… not the best experience builder for the Main Event.

I was going to sell shares of Rydz Poker, Inc. this year and let people buy a 1% stake for $100, but my accountant ruled that I couldn’t be a poker corporation and would instead need to start a poker syndicate. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a good poker syndicate as much as the next guy, but I sensed a level of involvement coming I wasn’t prepared for – I’ve got cards to play.

So, interesting tournament rule change this year - usually the top 10% of a tournament cashes and get double their entry fee back - pretty standard. So when I finished in the top 700 in year one, I made the money... but making the top 900 last year got me nothing because there's been about 7,000 people every year.

This year, they’re paying the top 1,000 spots no matter what. Now, the because they’re paying so many more people, the early payouts go down and start about $15,000… but there’s a better chance to cash so I can get my money back plus a little something extra to blow at the BlackJack table.

Ummm…

Actually.

Hmmmm…

Just kidding dear?

Anyway, I’m a fan of the change because I like cashing and at least getting my money back, but it’s kind of bittersweet since I finished in the top 1,000 last year and they made the rule change this year… but I have finished in the top 1,000 two of the last four years, which is a promising sign. Of course, as my wife keeps reminding me, statistically speaking I’ve got to go out on the first day one of these years.

At any rate, I just landed in Vegas - I'll stop by to pick up my registration tomorrow, probably do another blog post, and then Monday is Day One!

I added the e-mail gadget at the top so you can sign up for e-mails, but I think we've found in previous years that it doesn't work very well... I may actually try tweeting from the table, which would also allow me to disseminate real-time blog post updates, but I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet.

Happy Fourth of July!!!
